The Russian word for noodles is Лапша (lapsha), and they are often served as part of a soup. The dish came to Russia via the Tartar people who lived in the Mongolian Plateau in the 12th century CE. The Tartar people are responsible for spreading more dishes than just noodles: think of tartar sauce and steak tartare.
