The All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) is a hospital and research institute in New Delhi, considered one of the best in India. Each year the medical school receives roughly 90,000 applications, from which only 72 are chosen. This gives the institute an acceptance rate of 0.08%. For comparison, Harvard's acceptance rate is 5.4%. On the streets outside the Institute groups of sickly destitute Indians lay down mats and wait for days, hoping for treatment.
