In Tetovo, Macedonia is a mosque known as Šarena Džamija, meaning 'decorated' or 'painted' mosque. The mosque dates to 1438, and stands apart from most mosques in its decor. The outside is elaborately painted and glazed, a process that required 30,000 eggs. Perhaps the colourful alternative is due to the project having been financed by two sisters, as opposed to the usual sultan...

Bonus:
The 'okay' hand gesture has another meaning in Macedonia. The 'O' made by the thumb and index finger is Macedonia itself (with its circular borders). The three remaining fingers are the three neighbouring countries with large Macedonian populations: Greece, Albania, and Bulgaria. As such it is used as a salute.
