The French version of Harry Potter sees the names of many of the classes, teachers, students, and creatures changed. Notable are 'Defence Against the Dark Arts' which becomes 'Défence Contre les Forces du Mal' (Defence Against the Forces of Evil), and Severus Snape who becomes Severus Rogue. All the books titles have been translated directly, with the exception of the first, which is 'Harry Potter à l'école des sorciers' (Harry Potter at the School of Sorcerers). Be it coincidence or intentional, Dobby the House Elf's name means washerman in Hindi.
